As a part of my objective to develop a free and open-source (FOSS) engineering software stack, the only viable option for CAD is FreeCAD.

During some downtime, I challenged myself to test if FreeCAD was capable of production-grade design complexity. To do this, I reverse engineered CAD for a popular on-market dry powder inhaler.

Given the robustness of the model, I concluded that FreeCAD is a perfectly capable solid modelling tool, which struggles with surface modelling, and some cumbersome workflows.

Continuation

The areas I would like to explore further in FreeCAD are:

  1. Developing Low-Level Surface Modelling Workflows
  2. Product Lifecycle Management (I am developing my own software for this)
  3. Technical Drawings for Production-Grade Work
